Defrilex is expanding its global network of Mandarin and Cantonese interpreters for upcoming interpretation opportunities.
This is an opportunity to join our growing international interpreter network and support healthcare providers and patients through accurate, professional, and culturally appropriate language services.
No prior professional interpreting experience is required. We welcome qualified candidates from around the world who are fluent in English and Mandarin or Cantonese and are interested in building experience in the interpreting field.
Responsibilities
- Provide accurate and culturally appropriate interpretation between English and Mandarin or Cantonese.
- Facilitate clear communication between healthcare providers and patients during medical appointments and healthcare interactions.
- Interpret conversations accurately while maintaining the meaning, tone, and intent of the original communication.
- Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, neutrality, and impartiality at all times.
- Follow HIPAA requirements and all applicable client-specific guidelines.
- Handle sensitive and confidential information responsibly.
- Maintain a quiet, professional environment suitable for remote interpretation.
- Complete required language proficiency and client qualification assessments.
- Follow Defrilex procedures and quality standards for all assigned interpretation opportunities.
Minimum requirements
- Native or near-native fluency in English and Mandarin, or English and Cantonese.
- Excellent communication, listening, and comprehension skills.
- Strong understanding of cultural nuances in both languages.
- Ability to communicate clearly and accurately in professional and healthcare-related conversations.
- Quiet and professional workspace suitable for remote interpretation.
- Reliable high-speed internet connection.
- Computer with a quality USB headset and functioning microphone.
- Ability to pass required language proficiency and client qualification assessments.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow HIPAA and client-specific requirements.
- No prior professional interpreting experience required.
Preferred qualifications
- Medical Interpreter Certification.
- HIPAA Certification.
- Previous experience with OPI (Over-the-Phone Interpretation).
- Previous experience with VRI (Video Remote Interpretation).
- Previous healthcare, customer service, or language-services experience.
- Experience working with healthcare terminology.
Candidates without these qualifications are still encouraged to apply.

- EF SET English Certificate or equivalent English proficiency assessment.
Optional documents
- HIPAA Certificate, if available.
- Medical Interpreter Certificate, if applicable.
